OpenAI on Google Cloud: another option for enterprise AI architecture

The 21 October partnership announcement adds an access path for OpenAI models on Google Cloud. Availability still depends on the rollout stage.

OpenAI and Google Cloud announce a partnership

On 21 October 2026, OpenAI announced plans to bring its models and Codex agentic workflows to Google Cloud's Model Garden. Purchases will be available through Google Cloud Marketplace, with eligible cloud spending commitments usable for these purchases.

Google Cloud says selected models are rolling out in private preview to selected enterprise customers. OpenAI plans general availability in the following weeks. As of 27 October, businesses should still confirm account access, commercial terms and supported features.

Suggested evaluation before integration

For businesses building document assistants, record-processing tools or automated workflows, this creates another route to models within their cloud environment. An implementation decision should be based on the actual task and measured results.

A useful trial should address four areas:

  • Quality: how well does the model handle the company's documents, terminology and languages?
  • Data: who may submit information, which processing regions are supported and what terms apply?
  • Operations: what are the latency, usage limits, logging options and failure-handling arrangements?
  • Cost: what is the total cost of a completed task, including retrieval and output checking?

Design for model changes

Consider separating model calls from business logic. Keep authorization, approvals and output validation within the application. A team can then evaluate a replacement model against the same scenarios before changing providers.

For document extraction, useful measures include correctly populated fields, fields needing employee confirmation and processing time per record. These measures support decisions based on the work being performed.
